Strand woven bamboo flooring is very difficult to stain onsite and we do not recommend it.

Tiny particles of dirt and sand tracked into the room on shoes can dig into the finish of the floor causing dents divots or even scratches giving the bamboo a faded look. Pay attention to the node areas. Even though bamboo is a grass and not a hardwood bamboo flooring vs hardwood staining bamboo floors is very similar to staining hardwood floors except that sanding bamboo requires a bit more experience with a sanding machine. It is good practice to put a sample patch down maybe in a cupboard to see how it will come out first.

Bamboo floors can be stained and refinished just like hardwood floors. Much of the same materials and techniques used for finishing and refinishing hardwood floors can be used when doing bamboo floors. The process called a screen and recoat involves scuffing up the old finish with a floor buffer and a 120 grit sanding screen and applying one or two refresher coats of finish. Some cells in the bamboo absorb no stain at all while others absorb a lot.

Spills and wet spots will need to be cleaned up immediately so they don t stain the floor or cause it to warp. All bamboo flooring is pre finished and that being said not. Bamboo does take stain but it is not as porous as wood so it usually takes a bit of work to get to the desired color. The sample can be removed before finishing.

Oxalic acid should remove the stain without lightening the bamboo because the bamboo has been darkened by a chemical reaction not a stain. The first thing that you ll need to do is to stain your bamboo. Bamboo has a natural protective coating on it and stain will not adhere to this. If you find that the bamboo is not taking the stain wipe off the extra stain with a rag and allow the area to dry.

Bamboo flooring can be stained yes however the stain is absorbed unevenly. Use circular motions with a sponge or rag to stain the bamboo. Keep an eye on the bamboo while you re sanding it. Try re sanding the area and then re stain.

You will need to sand off the existing finish on the floor.
